I know what you’re thinking. You are thinking that you can’t possibly have read that right – but it’s true. If you are looking to become a non-smoker, then quitting is one of the last steps you should take. Please allow me to explain.
Usually, the thought of quitting smoking comes up only when you confront a virtual threat like a health scare or the realization that it is taking a heavy toll on your body. The reason is not important; what is important is that you have taken the decision to quit smoking. This is a huge achievement; don’t spoil it by rushing to the end without walking all the way. You will get nowhere.
Preparation and education is the key to everything, including quitting smoking. You wouldn’t attempt to rebuild your car’s engine just because you bought a set of tools off the shelf, or sew a dress for your daughter’s wedding after picking up your first ever sewing machine, so please don’t think that you can buy an off the shelf smoking cessation aid and you are home free. You would have just as much luck getting your car’s engine back together properly as quitting smoking. Oh sure, eventually you might get it right, but why waste your efforts when the proper information is available to help you be successful the first time.
So, it is best to follow a systematic program for quitting smoking. There are many programs displayed on the internet. While selecting the best program, it is best to compare a number of them; judge the merits and demerits of each, and then select the one that discloses the steps of the process and not the one that jumps to the conclusions. They may promise the moon but deliver nothing fantastic, and demoralize you in the bargain. Make sure that the program you are buying is based on providing information and guiding you step-by-step through the tedious journey of breaking your old habit. The ideal program would encourage you to take your time to learn and prepare and a bad one will want you to place your faith in a product by claiming that there is no effort required on your part.
Nothing is farther from the truth than such a statement. You cannot gain something for nothing. Your effort is most crucial. However, it is important to remember that quitting is the last step. It is the goal, not the path. But the truth is that the path is long and arduous and you need all your strength and determination to travel on it. Your success depends on how well you have prepared for the journey you are going to undertake. Quitting is the easy part – you just stop. So make sure you have all the information you need, before you try to quit smoking, and then there is no way you can fail to achieve your target of becoming a non-smoker.
Best of Luck,
Darren Warmuth

Some individuals prefer to do automotive repairs themselves. This saves you a lot of money if you are mechanically inclined and have the proper tools. Over time the cost of the tools pay for themselves and can be a great investment. Of course you would not want to tackle any kind of repairs if you did not have the proper tools.
This example is just the same as the task of quitting smoking. Surely, when it comes to the decision to stop smoking, you are making a choice to repair your life and health on many levels. You decided to improve your appearance – have fresher breath and be confident when you speak to people. Without the proper tools in hand, the damage caused by smoking cannot be repaired.
Many experts have come to the conclusion, that the more tools the better. Some of the tools in your toolbox may be: Herbal Products. Nicotine Patches. Nicotine Gum. Smoking cessation program. These are just a few to mention. The more tools you have in your toolbox will greatly increase your progress and eventually lead to your success.
If this is your goal and you are ready to quit smoking, preparing your own toolbox will begin the process of quitting smoking. No toolbox is complete without a journal. You should consider adding journaling into the toolbox. The benefits from maintaining a journal are enormous.
First, The process of quitting cigarettes can be a very emotional experience. Anger, frustration, and anxiousness, can be experienced along with a wide range of emotions. Journaling gives you a way you can help relieve and let out some of these emotions that are related with quitting cigarettes.
Second, journaling alone can be used as a healthy alternative to the act of smoking. When you would normally be smoking a cigarette, you can instead take a few minutes to write some thoughts or ideas into your journal.
3. Keeping a journal will show your successes and shortcomings. You can compare the two and concentrate on your weak moments. Journaling will track the whole process to stop smoking and help you stay away from lighting up
In the end, there are many other valuable and important benefits that go along with keeping a journal. Odds are strong that you will be happy that you included journaling as one of your tools when you commence the smoking cessation process.

Stop smoking with Lobelia to assist you. No method will make you quit. You have to want to quit and have the drive to do so. Herbal mixtures can be used to help you quit smoking when the time is right.
To begin, Lobelia will provide you with a full bodied tasteful smoke. Mix a calming herb with it. As the physical addiction disappears, switch to a calming smoke and add astringent herbs to keep the full tobacco smoke. No herbal mixture is going to taste like tobacco. Use Mullein with expectorants to help clear your lungs. Once that is accomplished, get rid of the astringent herbs. Doing so will feel like you are not smoking at all so, your interest in it will start to wane. These steps are just suggestions. You can change them as needed.
As the nicotine usage decreases, you will experience withdrawals. To help you through them, you can drink some herbs as a tea. To aid in the rapid removal of nicotine from your system, use Oregon Grape Root or Goldenseal. It will not lessen the withdrawal symptoms but the nicotine will be expelled from the body faster. If you experience headaches, Willow or Oak are great for getting rid of them. To help stay calm try Valerian, Parrot’s Beak or Skullcap.
After the physical habit disappears, the rest is up to you.
A potent herb that the amount taken in can be maintained by smoking it is Lobelia. As a potent muscle relaxer and sleep aid, it should not be used with alcohol or other sleep aids. Lobelia also increases the immune system and is an expectorant as well. That is why Lobelia is suggested as a perfect herb to assist with quitting smoking.
The primary ingredient in Lobelia is lobeline. The body recognizes lobeline as nicotine. Your body has receptors in it that when wanting nicotine, induce nicotine fits. Your body is fooled by lobeline because it is shaped like nicotine and can fit into the receptors. The benefit is that lobeline is not addictive when used correctly and for a short amount of time. Lobeline is the primary ingredient in gums that are meant to help you quit smoking.
Lobelia is powerful so remember that. If you are going to drink it, use one teaspoon for every half gallon of water combined with other herbs. If you are going to smoke it, use a pinch in combination with a bag of herbs. Using too much Lobelia will make you vomit. If you use too much but do not vomit, you can go into respiratory failure from the tranquilizing effect. It is hard to reach this point because you will feel awful for significant amount of time before it becomes hazardous.
Use Lobelia to achieve your goal of being smoke free. The alternative, calming, expectorant and nicotine imitation makes this herb popular. When making your mix, use a tiny pinch of Lobelia. Add more as necessary till it satisfies your craving. If the combination is too powerful lightheadedness, dizziness and nauseous will set in. It is the same thing that occurs when smoking a cigarette after going without for awhile.

Being a smoker is more fun. This widespread myth has now been busted by British scientists. The survey, which included 880 ex-smokers, showed that roughly 70% of the ex-smokers found themselves to be happier after the smoking cessation. The fear of losing life quality is why many smokers don’t want to quit smoking, but after the initial difficult time with withdrawal symptoms, it seems that life a a non smoker by no means is worse than life as a smoker. Quite the opposite actually, a study shows, which was recently published in the journal “Nicotine & Tobacco Research”. No ex-smokers regrets having stopped smoking, but what is important is to “survive” the first difficult time with withdrawal symptoms.
Among 879 ex-smokers 69.3 percent answered that they are happier after their cessation. 26.6 percent felt that their mood was the same, and only 3.3 percent said that they were less happy than before.
The results of the study fits with my experience: It is hard to find ex-smokers who regretted that they quit. It is rather easy to find smokers who regretted that they started in the first place.
It is a widespread myth, that if you quit smoking you will lose some life quality in return of a prolonged life. But for those smokers that fight through the withdrawal symptoms, the reward is actually two fold: sure, their life is prolonged, but they also feel free of dependence, feel more confident, have a lot more energy and receives recognition from their surrounding for their accomplishment. Ex-smokers are winners.
Focus on life quality rather than health
Shift the focus from all the harmful consequences of smoking to all the positive benefits of being a non-smoker is far more efficient, when trying to motivate people. It is not fear and pointing fingers that motivates people.
Instead, we are developing new methods in which we don’t to focus on diseases and health, but rather on the improved life quality, which freedom from smoke brings. The methods were developed from experiments with advice on smoking cessation for cancer patients. They were excited, partly because they felt that with a smoking cessation they themselves made a difference. Rather than being part of the problem, they were now part of the solution instead.
Better in time
The increased satisfaction is more pronounced, the longer the time that has passed since they quit smoking. But even with ex-smokers, where the smoking stop was stope new, it was still the majority who feel happier now. Younger ex-smokers was more excited after their cessation than older people. However it did not matter whether they were heavy smokers or only smoked a few cigarettes a day.

I do not smoke cigarettes because it would kill me. Believe me if I could get away with smoking I would. It was not like I loved smoking. But I enjoyed it. On that subject, did you know that the addiction to smoking is in your mind, your brain really. So the answer is yes you can stop smoking without NRT.
Nicotine inhaled into your lungs goes into your blood system and hits your brain faster than all other narcotics except for heroin and morphine. Your brain is getting a charge over and over with each puff you take.
You can stop a habit easier than an addiction. A habit like nibbling on your thumb nail can be broken with you realize it is a behavioral response. You might do this when you are nervous. Once you realize you are doing this you can figure out why you get nervous and then deal with it in a different way or you can choose not become nervous.
I stopped smoking for health reasons. Now do not get me wrong. I was never a one or two pack a day smoker. No, I smoked when I was in my twenties when I went out drinking with friends. I did this for about a year. Then one day I went to play full court basketball like I used to growing up. I spent the second half of the game bent over fighting to breathe. No more cigarettes for a long time after that experience.
And it has been ten years since I had a smoke and at my age I have no intentions of going back. You see I figure that I have breathed in enough smog in my life that I do not want to make matters worse by smoking again.
In my twenties however I smoked when I was out with my drinking friends who smoked. A few months of this I went out and played a pick up game of basketball. I spent the second half of the game bent over gasping for air like a fish out of water. That was my last smoking experience for many years to come.
Years later I traveled throughout Europe. In Europe cigarettes are more prevalent than in the States. I took it up again. I decided when I returned home to light up occasionally like at our monthly poker game. And then I decided to have only one cigarette when I got home from work. I actually smoked my one cigarette in the bathroom. One particularly tough day at work I thought about smoking my one cigarette when I got home. Suddenly I felt good, my body and mind relaxed knowing that soon I would be puffing away in my bathroom.
I decided not to smoke my cigarette that night when I got home. No I tossed the pack in the trash. I thought if I looked forward to a smoke to ease my day at work then I had a bigger problem than a hard day at work. And the problem was in my mind, my brain actually. You can stop smoking without NRT when you understand you need to overcome your brain’s need for nicotine. You might have to go through some tough times. But you have to learn to say no to your brain. You can do it!

Let’s be honest. Can you stop smoking without NRT? In today’s world of increasing health awareness and smoking restrictions, more people want to kick the butts and start living a healthy smoke free lifestyle. But let’s not kid ourselves, as this is one of the most challenging aspects of getting healthy. Nicotine replacement therapies have their place, but they certainly don’t work for everyone.
Fortunately, for anyone who wants to get healthy and stop dealing with the chronic issues that surround being addicted to cigarettes there are other options. In today’s world of expensive smokes, restricted smoking areas, and of course rising health care costs there is a need for people to find a way to get through the transition period between smoker and nonsmoker. It’s not easy but with the right help you can become smoke free.
When looking for an alternative to nicotine replacement therapy you have all kinds of options. Finding the one that works best for you is the key to becoming successful. Many people who are looking for alternative treatment options turn to behavioral modification therapies to help them break free from the emotional attachment they have to cigarettes. Since nicotine withdrawal peaks after only a mere 3 days, behavioral management can help dissuade a cold turkey quitter from reverting back to cigarettes during times of duress.
Hypnosis has been successful for some quitters. Entering into a hypnosis program often means having to go through multiple sessions, but those who successfully quit in this manner say that they experience very few cravings and had an easier time moving on from the psychological hold that smoking had over them.
When you go without NRT, you have the additional option of adding medication to the mix. The basic medications that are designed to help you quite smoking do so by interfering with the receptors in the brain that claim to love the nicotine of a smoke. While you are on these medications you start to realize that you no longer receive the same emotional of physical benefit of smoking a cigarette.
Beyond medications there are also natural therapies that can help ease cravings and help you find new and healthier options. Natural therapies often help your body cleanse itself and create a replacement system for you to wean yourself off of during your first several months of being a nonsmoker. These therapies have been proven successful for a very long period of time.
Finding the right therapy to stop smoking without NRT can be the one thing you need in order to complete your goal. The hardest thing about quitting smoking after the first 73 to100 hours is finding a way to rework your stress relief habits. With the right therapies you can accomplish this without keeping nicotine in your system for any longer than absolutely necessary. Many of these methods are considered safer and healthier than other nicotine replacement therapy because they include getting away from the unhealthy addictive substance that has kept you smoking for so long.
Combining various therapies and making sure that you have a new way to cope with stress is often one of the elements missing from NRT. Choosing any combination of programs that works for you is elemental.

When a person wishes to stop smoking without NRT they may find that there are so many choices placed before them that they get confused. It is difficult to know which method, herb, or technology will be appropriate for the special needs of the individual who is trying to stop an addictive practice.
An individual who wants to stop smoking without NRT must first make a commitment and set a deadline for the last cigarette they will smoke. This is often the most difficult part of quitting, making the decision then committing to it.
For most people doing anything with a group of friends is easier and most fun. Even when a group decides to stop smoking without NRT it seems easier and more doable than when one is facing the challenge along. It is important that an individual who is going to quit smoking have a support group and network of people that they can turn to when they may start to waiver.
A method of stopping in a relatively short period of time is through the use of acupuncture. An acupuncture treatment may last up to thirty minutes and involves the use of needles placed strategically in different areas of the ear. This treatment reduces or removes the craving for cigarettes. Following the treatment many therapists tape small balls to certain points of the ear for use between sessions. If a person craves a cigarette they are instructed to press the ball. For a few seconds until the craving subsides.
Many of the suggestions given while a person in in a hypnotherapy session may not be remembered at a conscious level. However when one is attempting to quit smoking the suggestions given by a hypnotherapist in a weekly half hour session will help them to quit smoking in a short time. In most cases the therapist will also introduce alternative items that will trigger the pleasure centers in the brain that were previously satisfied with smoking.
There are also several herbal remedies that are said to help an individual stop smoking without NRT. When used individually the herb Lobelia which has similar reactions in the body as nicotine is most effective. This herb increases dopamine in the brain which helps with cravings and mood shifts which often accompany the cessation of cigarette smoking.
Many people notice that items taste differently when they are ingested with ginseng. Ginseng stops the release of dopamine so an individual will find that they do not get pleasure from smoking after taking or drinking Ginseng.
There are many combinations of herbs manufactured as treatments to aid smoking cessation. Many of these remedies contain Oat Straw which acts as a stimulator to the central nervous system and increases blood flow.
Research done on both homeopathic, herbal, and aromatherapy remedies have the greatest effects when used in combination with education and support. In addition the inclusion of a proper diet which is high in alkaline also acts to enhance the reduction of nicotine cravings that people may suffer.

All smokers know they should give up the habit. Usually, it is all about being motivated enough to lead a smoke-free life. So, here are some quitting smoking benefits that should get you motivated to quit this addiction.
Of course you know that you’ll be healthier if you stop smoking. Smoking causes 90% of lung cancers and is responsible for most cases of bronchitis and chronic emphysema as well. Lung cancer is the quick, painful death. Chronic lung disease is a slow, painful death. You really don’t want to experience either.
The fact is that you can’t smoke without damaging your lungs. No matter what your level of function is now, it would be better if you didn’t smoke. There’s no way around it. If you smoke your lung function is not as good as it would be if you stop smoking. Obviously, breathing is central to life. The better our lungs work, the better off we are.

The dependency on nicotine is the chief problem for people who want to stop smoking without using nicotine replacement (NRT). Mark Twain did not know that he had a nicotine addiction by he was cheeky enough to say that it was easy to stop smoking as he had done it a thousand times. Smokers are able to find a large amount of self help material, they can use drugs or NRT to try and stop, but no matter what you try, it is just not a simple thing to do.
And we do not all have the willpower of General De Gaulle who was a heavy smoker. He just realized one day that the cigarettes were controlling him, and not the other way around, so he just stopped! But we are not all made of the same stuff. Physical, psychological and emotional addictions are very difficult to control and changing the way we do things is also not easy, particularly if we still want to be around others who smoke. You can’t all of a sudden stop being friends with smokers because they smoke and you don’t want to.
Many states in the US have instituted free counseling services for smokers and it has been found that these work very well. They provide a support system, and this makes a very good alternative to using NRT. Some very good results have been seen from these services, and smokers are twice as easily able to stop with this support as without it.
Nicotine just happens to be one of the most habit forming substances we know of. It is for this reason that support is vital for the smoker who is trying to stop. This support starts at home with his family and extends, through friends, so-workers, employers and obviously the counseling service they are making use of. Encouragement is vital in this attempt to break the habit and ex-smokers swear that the support they receive is one of the chief reasons for achieving success.
It is a very simple matter to find all the information you need about stopping smoking from various sources: Your local hospital, your health insurance company, your employer and obviously from support groups. But the best help you will get, will come from an experienced and well trained counselor.
Counseling may be undertaken on an individual or group basis, and even over the telephone it has its merits. Because counselors are trained to help the smoker deal with the physical and emotional side of giving up this addiction, their assistance it so much more valuable, and much more than just a shoulder to cry on, it is also about understanding the withdrawal.
The thing to remember is that once you stop smoking, the nicotine remains in the body for as long as three to four days and it is when this period is over that the withdrawal symptoms begin to manifest. These are liable to last just a couple of days or in some instances even weeks. It is this time when the support is needed most so that the smoker has someone to turn to rather than back to the cigarettes.
Counseling is far more effective than NRT, because with NRT you are still putting this addictive drug into your body. You don’t need to do this, nor do you have to use other dangerous drugs if you have the right people on your side in your quest to stop smoking. Medical research has shown that individuals who receive counseling are 4 times more likely succeed than by using any other method to quit smoking.

Smoking is a bad habit. But does anyone really know how bad? The number of smokers is still so high that it is doubtful, especially that the amount of smokers around us makes it extremely hard to break that habit. That’s why many smokers lull themselves into a false security, repeating the stories about healthy 90-year old smokers. The truth however, is quite different.
Everyone probably knows that smoking damages one’s health, appearance, and image. It is dangerous to your family and workmates (if you smoke at work), inhaling smoke is not a pleasant feeling, and your clothes and you start to stink to heavens after only a few weeks of smoking. However, this is only the beginning of what happens to smokers. The whole truth is known only to few people – not because it’s secret, but because it is so hard to believe in all bad things we do to ourselves by smoking.
The Terrible Truth
The facts can’t be contested. Every year there are over four hundred thousand casualties of smoking a year in the United States alone. This is almost a hundred times more than died at the WTC attack and ten times more than the US has lost during the 6-year war with terrorism. The moment a smoker lights his or her cigarette, he or she inhales almost five thousand dangerous chemicals. 69 of those compounds are known to be carcinogenic. The risk is practical – over three quarters of lung cancer fatalities in the US is the direct effect of smoking.
Smoking however, does much more than just cause lung cancer. It affects also the heart making it more probable to have a stroke, and increasing chances for developing allergies, respiratory problems such as asthma and other chronic diseases. This may happen both to smokers themselves, and to those who only inhale the smoke, for example children of smoking parents.
We may say of course, that people are free to do whatever they want, even if they harm themselves. Of course that true – we live in a free country anyway – but the problem is that one of the main victims of our bad habits are our children. OR, to tell the truth, parents and children alike. First of all, cigarette smoke may cause infertility both in males and females. Then, a woman who breaths in cigarette smoke during pregnancy sentence their children to suffer from the respiratory problems for the rest of their life. In more extreme cases, smoking during pregnancy may also cause premature infant deaths and early deliveries.
Smokers’ deaths are only the beginning…
Smoking does not only kill us. It also makes us ugly.
First of all, smoking affects the color of your teeth, staining them yellow or brown. This makes dental cleaning every year a must. However, the gum problems that develop soon after are not so easily disposed of. Cigarette smoke prevents gums from receiving all necessary nutrients, making them weaker and eventually resulting in inadequate periodontal support for your teeth.
The teeth problems are what should really count to smokers. The chance of cancer or respiratory diseases may not seem real enough (though it is 100% real, too). On the other hand, losing teeth due to smoking is not theoretical. It will happen to every smoker, even though they may not notice the connection. If you start smoking at the age of 19, you will probably have five teeth less by the age of 36. To make things worse, cigarettes are also responsible for most after-dental surgery complications, slowing down the healing rate and making your mouth an ideal place for infections to settle in. This may not be obvious if you are generally in a good physical condition, but when the inside of the mouth is already under great strain after, say, teeth removal, the effects may be immediate.
Compared to teeth loss and dry-socket problems other “niceties” of smoking look trivial. Nevertheless, they are also infuriating as well as 100% sure to show up. The changes include losing color by your skin, thinning of hair and its breaking off, and the terrible stink surrounding you, your clothes and your stuff. Even though you may not notice it at first – the change takes months and it’s not easy to spot a difference building up during so long time – other people will see it for sure. So, if you notice that people start distance from you during parties or try not to sit next to you, it is probably either due to the odor they smell or to your weary and unattractive look. Either way, do not blame them – you have done it to yourself.
What’s the solution? There is only one: quit smoking! Right here and right now. Cig-Arette will help you minimize the withdrawal symptoms and pour in all necessary nutrients to get your body back to life in no time. Stop now – smoking is not worth your life and, even more importantly, your good look.
