Sulfur: An Effective Acne Treatment?

3:57 am skin care

While I was out exploring the mall I happened upon a product that I would like to share with you, well it is actually an active ingredient found in many products. It is called sulfur; you may have heard of it most notable quality, its bad smell. But that is not all it does, it is actually a very good product for the treatment of acne.

Not to worry though, because in the form of a facial scrub or a cleanser it does not smell at all, actually it smells quite pleasant. But, moving on from smells let’s look at what it can do for you and your worst enemy; acne.

While other products take two different treatments to remove dead skin, unclog pores, and kill bacteria sulfur is able to do it all in one step.

The first thing you will want to do is use a facial scrub that contains sulfur as the active ingredient. The purpose of a scrub is to remove the outer layer of dead skin, which exposes the skins pores and readies them for the next step.

While the facial cleanser is busy cleaning off the dead skin cells and cleaning out your pores it is also actually killing bacteria. It does this because sulfurs active ingredient, sulfacetamide, has antibacterial properties.

Now that your outer layer of dead skin has been removed and the dirt and oil has been flushed from your pores the sulfur can do its most important job; kill acne causing bacteria. This is its most important job because a bacterium is the root cause of acne.

The best thing to use for this is non-soap face soap. I know that this sounds weird, but that is precisely what it is. This product is a lot milder then the sulfur facial cleanser, so it can be used on a daily basis without causing irritation.

All of this is advice that I would give to my closes friends and it is what I use of my own face every day, but I am not a professional so you should consult with your dermatologist before using any of these products.
