If you wear a ring and injure your finger quickly remove it before the swelling begins. Using baby oil or even your own spit can help if the swelling has already begun. It is a myth that Titanium rings can not be cut from the finger if necessary. This has stalled some sales to jewelers who sell titanium rings, but it is nothing more that a rumor. The saws used by hospitals remove titanium rings regularly, and with no more trouble than a traditional silver or gold ring.
It is entirely possible to cut through titanium rings with a regular dremel and a cutting wheel. Though you should never attempt this yourself. If you have a swollen finger and it is making impossible to remove your ring you need to seek emergency medical treatment. This can be a serious problem as people have lost thier fingers this way.
Jewelers have been known to cut rings off of peoples fingers in the past. This is usually due to a finger outgrowing the ring. It is extremely rare though because jewelers have many secret ways of getting tight rings off of fingers. If they do have to cut it off they can with the standard equipment that they use daily.
